Welcome

The Department of Biology is responsible for research and teaching within the vast disciplines of the biological sciences, from molecular cell biology to ecology and evolutionary biology. Our faculty perform cutting-edge research in a wide array of biological sciences in the laboratory and in the field. Our graduate research programs prepare scientists for careers in academia, industry and government and enhance our understanding of the central role of biological systems in the global environment. Our undergraduate students gain a firm foundation in modern biological sciences to prepare them for a multitude of careers that depend on a solid understanding of biology. We hope you find our website informative and useful. Welcome to Biology!

The Department of Biology is currently seeking applicants for Laboratory Instructors, Faculty in Circadian Biology, and Department Head. Please visit our Postions in Science page for more information.

Spotlight

Dr. Lisa CampbellDr. Ginger Carney, Associate Professor of Biology, runs a nationally recognized research program funded by the National Science Foundation and teaches scientific writing skills to undergraduate and graduate students. As busy as she is with her standard faculty duties, she makes time to pursue another passion- sharing her excitement for science, research and learning with school-aged children. Young children are naturally inquisitive, and Dr. Carney enjoys fostering their excitement for learning by showing kids that science can be fun and interesting.

Dr. Carney and members of her laboratory frequently make presentations at local schools about their research. Since 2005 the Carney lab group has participated in the Chemistry Open House & Science Exploration Gallery held each fall at Texas A&M University. Thousands of K-12 students descend on College Station from all over the state of Texas to enjoy a day of fun-filled, hands-on activities designed to peak kids’ interest in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Engineering.
