Frequently Asked Questions about the Core Curriculum

36. Do I have to take a computer science or foreign language course?
All students are required to complete two years of the same foreign language and at least one year of a computer science course in high school.  Any student who has not completed one or both of these requirements must fulfill them prior to graduating from A&M.   In order to fulfill the foreign language requirement, a student must complete two courses in the same foreign language.  In order to fulfill the computer science requirement, students may choose from the following courses: AGEC 221; AGEN 109; AGLS 201; ANSC 401; BANA 207; CPSC 110, 203, 206, 207; EDTC 445; ENGR 109; HLTH 240, 430; KINE 240, 430; PHYS 401; RENR 201. Any student who is uncertain about whether they have met this requirement should contact the Undergraduate Advising Office in 107 Butler Hall.

37. What about the core curriculum?
Assuming the foreign language and computer science requirements were fulfilled prior to entering TAMU, a Biology student only has to be concerned with the humanities, social science and speech/writing skills requirements.  For a complete list of acceptable courses see the questions below.

39. What Social Science electives can I take?

40. What Speech and Writing Skills electives can I take?
This requirement must be satisfied by ENGL104 (3 hours) and one of the following:  ENGL203, 210, 235, 236, 241, 301; SCOM203, 243.
