The Department of Biology has made its first step into the wireless world. Earlier this year, Dr. Cassone asked Biology Equipment Support Services to bring TAMULINK Wireless to the department. David Denke took this task to heart and, with the help of the Computing Services staff, he developed a plan to bring wireless networking to the department. Hours were spent testing distances, trying to get Computing & Information Services to consider our requests, figuring out funding, and checking out our options for wireless. Now the department's journey toward wireless has started.
Currently the we have wireless access on the second floor of BSBE near Dr. Thomas' Lab and in the Graduate Computing Lab (room 425 in BSBW). More access points like this will be installed in the department soon. Heldenfels Hall is expected to be have its wireless network installed between semesters. Future additions will be done as quickly as possible, with priority given to teaching areas and conference areas. Research labs and other areas will follow, again, as quickly as possible.
Please feel free to bring your device by and connect to the wireless network. If you see an access point, like the picture above, in your area, please feel free to use it and enjoy. Check back to see when wireless is coming to you.
If you need help in configuring your device to use the wireless network, please ask us for help. Some instructional pages will be added as soon as we get a chance!
