Post-doctoral Research Positions:

Molecular mechanism of eukaryotic chemorepulsion

Development of chemorepulsion-based potential therapeutics for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)

The Gomer lab at Texas A&M University has immediate openings for 2 post-doctoral fellows to study the mechanisms of eukaryotic chemorepulsion, and develop chemorepulsion-based potential therapeutics for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The lab uses both the eukaryotic model system Dictyostelium discoideum and human neutrophils. Both postdoctoral fellows will gain experience working with Dictyostelium and human blood cells using molecular biology, cell biology, microscopy, and biochemistry techniques. In addition, because we are developing therapeutics, both fellows will gain experience with patents and the biotech business.

Environment: We are in the Biology Department at Texas A&M and our lab is in the interdisciplinary life sciences building, where the nearby labs are researchers in the Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Psychology departments. The atmosphere is enthusiastic, collaborative, and supportive. Texas A&M is a Tier 1 research institution with both a medical school and a veterinary medicine school, and extensive research facilities. College Station is a small, friendly, low cost of living university town located between Austin and Houston.

Requirements: Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related fields, be able to work collaboratively and maintain a supportive environment in the lab, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to recent Ph.D. candidates with experience in molecular genetics, biochemistry, and/or cell biology.

Application: Applicants should send the following to rgomer@tamu.edu

  1. A cover letter that describes your research interests and career goals
  2. A CV that lists your research experience, technical skills, and publications
  3. Contact information for three references
