Record-Breaking Class of ’29 Arrives as Biology Launches Bold New Era

students in 360 classroom learning biologyThe Department of Biology at Texas A&M is proud to welcome the Class of 2029, one of the largest and most accomplished groups of incoming students in its history. With nearly 5,500 applications submitted this year, Biology saw a more than 20% increase in interest over last year, signaling growing momentum and national recognition for one of the university’s most dynamic departments. As New Student Conferences kick off this summer, Biology faculty and staff are preparing to greet hundreds of new students who are ready to explore careers in medicine, biotechnology, research, and beyond.

Incoming students will find more than just strong academic programs. They’ll be stepping into a department that’s investing deeply in undergraduate experience. Biology majors will now have access to Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURES), designed to provide mentored research opportunities starting in the first year. Students will also have access to state-of-the-art facilities in Heldenfels Hall. These labs will support the nation’s largest Introductory Biology and Anatomy & Physiology programs, and reflect the department’s commitment to hands-on, high-impact learning.

This year’s incoming class joins a department on a steep upward trajectory. Biology continues to attract record levels of research funding and is actively improve infrastructure and the curriculum to enhance the student experience. With over 2,000 undergraduate majors, 200 graduate students, and more than 100 faculty and staff committed to student success, the Department of Biology is not just preparing students for the future, it’s helping them shape it.
